Walk of Fame honors Matt Groening

Can you believe The Simpson's have been on for more than 500 episodes? That is insane. No other scripted show has been on television that long. The Simpson's debut was in 1989. In 2000 the Simpson family received their star on the walk of fame.

Matt Groening was joined today by by Simpson regulars, Yeardley Smith, Hank Azaria & Nancy Cartwright.

My favorite thing Matt has ever done is "Life Is Hell" cartoon that ran in the LA Reader & LA Weekly. It started in 1977 as a self-published comic book.

Whitney Houston 1963-2012

Whitney Houston, the iconic American singer whose battles with drugs, alcohol and ex-husband Bobby Brown marred her star power, has died. She was 48.

Six police cars were spotted in front of the Beverly Hilton hotel today, where Houston was staying. TMZ reports that paramedics were called there this afternoon and found Houston unresponsive in her hotel room.

According to TMZ, paramedics' attempts at CPR failed and Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. PT. TMZ reports that there were no signs of foul play.

Whitney is survived by her only child, Bobbi Kristina Brown. It's a sad day for the music industry. She was an amazing talent. One can you hope that her soul is at peace.

Sir Paul McCartney gets a Star

It's been a long and winding road for Sir Paul McCartney as he finally receives his own star on the walk of fame today. "I couldn't have done it without a certain three boys, so I want to say thanks to those guys, John, George and Ringo," he said.
McCartney's star was placed outside the Capitol Records building, alongside those of band members John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

2012 Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon

Every year a few weeks before the Academy Awards take place, the academy throws a little luncheon at the Beverly Hilton hotel where all the nominees are invited to get together in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy their nominations.

The biggy is best picture: The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, War Horse. There there are 9 nominees in this category, how many have you seen? How many have you liked? It's crazy, because from what I can tell, not many people have seen but a few of these, myself included. Every year I try, but this year, not so much.

Actor in a Leading Role: Demián Bichir, George Clooney, Jean Dujardin, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt

Actress in a Leading Role: Glenn Close, Viola Davis, Rooney Mara, Meryl Streep, Michelle Williams

Actor in a Supporting Role: Kenneth Branagh, Jonah Hill, Nick Nolte, Christopher Plummer, Max von Sydow

Actress in a Supporting Role: Berenice Bejo, Jessica Chastain, Melissa McCarthy, Janet McTeer, Octavia Spencer

Personally, this might where I get into a bit of trouble. Of what I have seen, I just don't believe some of these are oscar worthy performances. Some of these actors have been so much better in meatier roles in the past. Then there is Jonah Hill, really? The same guy from "Superbad", "Knocked Up" etc. Just because he didn't have a foul mouth does he deserves a oscar nod.....I don't think so.

Good luck to all and the end is near, Sunday, February 26th on ABC (check your local listings).

The Vow World Premiere

Valentine's Day must be right around the corner with another 'chick-flick' on the horizon, "The Vow". I don't know if Rachel McAdams kind fine the same kind of love as she did in "The Notebook." Don't get me wrong, I love a good romance movie. There just doesn't seem to be many 'good' ones. I believe "The Notebook" was special, it was believable and the kind of love that one can dream about.

Now, there is Channing Tatum....a nice looking young man, but his choices in movies are all over the place. First he is a dancer, "Step Up" then "GI Joe", back to chick flick, "Dear John" back to macho, "The Eagle" & "GI Joe" and somewhere in there he wraps up all three categories by playing a male stripper in the up coming "Magic Mike". All I can say as lets all hope for the best.
