2012 Academy Awards Nominee Luncheon

Every year a few weeks before the Academy Awards take place, the academy throws a little luncheon at the Beverly Hilton hotel where all the nominees are invited to get together in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy their nominations.

The biggy is best picture: The Artist, The Descendants, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Help, Hugo, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, The Tree of Life, War Horse. There there are 9 nominees in this category, how many have you seen? How many have you liked? It's crazy, because from what I can tell, not many people have seen but a few of these, myself included. Every year I try, but this year, not so much.

Actor in a Leading Role: Demián Bichir, George Clooney, Jean Dujardin, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt

Actress in a Leading Role: Glenn Close, Viola Davis, Rooney Mara, Meryl Streep, Michelle Williams

Actor in a Supporting Role: Kenneth Branagh, Jonah Hill, Nick Nolte, Christopher Plummer, Max von Sydow

Actress in a Supporting Role: Berenice Bejo, Jessica Chastain, Melissa McCarthy, Janet McTeer, Octavia Spencer

Personally, this might where I get into a bit of trouble. Of what I have seen, I just don't believe some of these are oscar worthy performances. Some of these actors have been so much better in meatier roles in the past. Then there is Jonah Hill, really? The same guy from "Superbad", "Knocked Up" etc. Just because he didn't have a foul mouth does he deserves a oscar nod.....I don't think so.

Good luck to all and the end is near, Sunday, February 26th on ABC (check your local listings).
